Who We Are

PJ Mzimba Foundation is a youth focused, community rooted non-profit organisation established under the auspices of the Presbyterian Church of Africa, Cape Synod Youth Association. We exist to empower young people through education, digital skills, entrepreneurship, and social upliftment.

While the vision for the Foundation was birthed within the church specifically its vibrant youth association, we are a registered and independent organisation. This structure enables us to begin by serving our church community and gradually extend our support to youth in surrounding communities who face similar barriers.
We are faith-aligned but impact driven, operating with professional governance, transparency, and inclusion at the heart of our mission.

Our Journey

In response to the growing needs of young people in our congregations from limited access to tertiary education, to youth unemployment and digital exclusion, the Presbyterian Church of Africa – Cape Youth Synod took the first step to imagine a platform dedicated to sustainable youth development.
That vision became the PJ Mzimba Foundation. While we honour our origin, we function as a community facing organisation inclusive of all, open to partnerships, and accountable to both our church and society at large.

Our Vision

To build a generation of confident, skilled and empowered young people beginning within our church community and expanding into the broader society through visible, viable, reliable, and accountable youth development programmes.

Our Mission

We aim to empower youth, build leaders and create lasting change.

Our Purpose

We exist to:

• Break financial and systemic barriers to education.
• Prepare youth for a digital, tech-driven economy.
• Encourage job creation through entrepreneurship.
• Provide social relief and restore dignity.
• Modernise church community tools through innovation.

Our Strategic Pillars

We are guided by five foundational principles that define how we operate:

01. Visibility

We make the work visible and the youth we serve even more so. Through storytelling, digital platforms, and community engagement, we ensure our presence is felt in every church circuit, and eventually, in every corner where youth need us.

02. Viability

We are building a foundation designed to last. This means sound financial planning, clear programme models, and strategic growth ensuring that we remain sustainable, adaptable, and ready for scale.

03. Reliability

We do what we say. Our communities and funders trust us to deliver consistently and with care. From scholarships to dignity drives, our programmes are delivered with professionalism, integrity, and follow-through.

04. Accountability

We honour every rand and every expectation. Through strong governance, transparent reporting, and community feedback, we ensure our work remains ethical, measurable, and responsive.

05. Sustainability

We think long term in everything we do. We build with tomorrow in mind. From eco-conscious practices to youth led solutions that stand the test of time, we ensure our programmes don’t just make an impact now, they plant seeds for future generations. We invest in leadership, innovation, and long term change.

We are faith aligned but impact driven.
